All Black Ink Wide Format Printer Instructions
How do I Install and Use the All Black Ink™ System for a WIDE FORMAT printer?
When installing the All Black Ink System (including BlackMax which is also manufactured by Freehand) you MUST turn on the Multi-Black Setting in the AccuRIP’s Setup feature. Failure to do so will create an imbalance in the cartridges and cause one or more cartridges to drain prematurely. Note: uneven draining is not possible with AccuRIP – only through an incorrect setup or a hardware clog or developing clog.
Open AccuRIP, from the File menu choose Edit Configuration or Setup. Click Configure Printer or “what printer do you have” tab (depending on the version of AccuRIP you are operating). Select “Multi-black” and have all colors checked. Ink Coverage is usually set to Standard. Some All Black Ink systems are not a full set and are single matte slot solutions. In the case of a single or less than a full set, you can select the specific slots to spray ink in the AccuRIP Multi-black feature. The Sure Color T-3270, for example, is a matte slot only system. Only the MATTE slot would be checked ON in Multi-black. All other slots are not checked. You will not that the single cartridge has the Dmax name. Dmax is the formulated DYE inkjet ink by Freehand and part of the All Black Ink product family.
Wide Format printers:
Cartridges insert in the same manner as an Epson cartridge. Place the proper color coded cartridge into its matching slot in the printer. Complete the install process with all carts. DO NOT ATTEMPT to put any Epson black cartridges in all the slots to create an All Black scenario. This will likely damage your printer and the cartridge chips. All Black Ink cartridges are manufactured for each slot.

Topic:
There are special options used by Epson technicians that a user can also take advantage of in a time of need. Entering into the Service Mode is always something to be careful doing, only address settings you are sure you understand. Doing this can save you an expensive tech visit for something easy to handle.
An Epson printer has an “initial filling” function that handles the first time install of inks making sure they fill the lines and the print head. It’s called “init. fill” and it’s located in the Service Mode menu.
Running and “init. fill” may be the way to handle these new style printer configurations when you wish to change the printer to a special dedicated ink system such as one with all black inks.
Things to know and understand:
Each Wide format printer has its own way of entering into the Service mode, do some research online to find what s right for your printer model.
Example: The Epson 4880 you hold down the “Pause” button when you power on the printer.
The Epson 7900 and 9900 you hold down the “Menu button, Ok button and down arrow button” when you power on the printer and when the printer display is ready and looks like you are set to print you now click the “Menu” button one time to enter into the “Self Testing” window and options.
Holding just the “Pause” button upon start-up on the 7900/9900 takes you into the Maintenance Mode, which has some cleaning options along with other settings.
You can see there is a lot more to your printer than you deal with each day and knowing at least some of these options may help prevent an expensive Epson tech service call when it could have been avoided.
Freehand is not responsible for anything you do to your printer in error. We are just informing you of these extra options available to you.
